“The Artist” Actress ADRIA TENNOR is set to star in “1961,” the upcoming Independent Feature Film Executive Produced by DEXTER DAVIS of D Street Productions.

Actress ADRIA TENNOR is set to star in the upcoming independent feature, “1961.” Tennor currently appears in the Golden Globe winning film (Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy) and Oscar contender (Best Picture) “The Artist,” and recurs on the Golden Globe and Emmy-winning AMC series “Mad Men” as Betty Draper’s frank-talking neighbor, Joyce Darling, as well as on ABC Family’s collegiate dramedy “Greek” in the role of eccentric Professor Clarissa Hawn.

JOHN G.YOUNG, award-winning director of “Parallel Son” and “Rivers Wash Over Me,” will helm “1961,” a period piece set in sixties-era Michigan. The film chronicles the life of seven-year-old Karen Smith, whose world is suddenly shattered by tragedy. Fragile bonds between Karen and her parents gradually sever as blame and denial overtake a grief stricken family. Tennor will star in the leading role of Karen’s mother, Marilyn.

“1961” has particular resonance for Royal Oak, Michigan-born Tennor: “When I was six, my Grandmother took me to the Fisher Theatre in Detroit. I fell in love. I wanted my mother to drive me downtown to audition for the next production, but she wouldn't. She was afraid of two things: 1) that I wouldn't get cast and I’d be disappointed and 2) that I would get cast and I’d leave Michigan and never come back. I'm happy to return to my home state cast in the role of a lifetime.”

“1961” producer, Dexter Davis says “I speak for the director and myself when I say we are both thrilled to have Adria onboard this beautiful project. She brings a sensibility and quiet strength to the character that I’m sure will wow critics. She’s got a lot of momentum coming off ‘The Artist’ and this project could be her breakout film cementing her introduction to American audiences.”
