05/18/2013– ​​​Nubia Emmon Blitzes Austin in Support of Breast Cancer...

Nubia Emmon performed back to back at the Wren Foundation Wig Drive for cancer survivors and patients and the Komen/Austin Women in Strides Launch Party on Saturday, July 14, 2012 (Be sure to see the exciting video at nubiaemmon.com!). Both events focused on raising breast cancer awareness among African American women. Although African American women develop breast cancer at lower rates, statistics show they die at a much higher and devastating rate than other women. Komen/Austin's Women in Strides is an outreach and education program designed to target African American women and ultimately help lower these numbers. In addition to the entertainment, speakers, and a silent auction, Komen/Austin also gave a tour of the new Seton Mobile Mammography Unit.

Jessica Wren of the Wren Hope Foundation was host of the "Living Your Life Like it's Golden" Benefit (Mixer) to help cancer survivors and patients get wigs. With motivational speakers, spoken words, entertainment and a free blood pressure/blood sugar screening, this event was not the end, but the beginning of a drive for 2000 Wigs. Often, through treatment, it is very common for patients to lose their hair and for many, if not most---this can be a scary change among other side effects.​​​

Nubia Emmon and her team are continuing with plans for a Pretty Girls that Rock the Mic Tour for Breast Cancer Awareness. To further build community awareness about future goals, educate the community about early detection and encourage support for upcoming tours, the team will continue to host and support awareness events.
