3rd World is an isometric 3D turn-based combat game, focusing on small squad tactics. In 3rd World, players take the role of the leader of a Mercenary Unit based in "The Sprawl", the haggard, run down cyberpunk metropolis that may very well be the last bastion of mankind. Hired guns for corporations, are the ruling elite of the Sprawl, the mercenary units act as security, shock troops, thieves or assassins – whatever the corporations need doing “off the books”, the mercenaries provide. As a new squad in The Sprawl, players start with next to nothing, just their home base and the 3 units that form the core of the squad, but as players complete missions they gain fame, money and power. Gain enough power and security clearances can change, granting a squad the ability to control territory of its own and to hire more members or use better weapons.

'We've had to make some minor modifications to adapt to the new handheld gamer, but the original intent and experience will be the same", reports co-creator Derek W. Frost of video game publisher and developer, Vision-Strike-Ware.com.

3rd World is played in two modes: Missions and Overlord. “Missions” are an asynchronous, turn-based battle mode where both sides control the units of their squads as they deploy them in an isometric, tile-based 3D environment by issuing orders. Each turn represents a slice of time, roughly 8 seconds, and in that turn each unit can perform a certain number of actions based on the action point cost of the action and the total action points a unit has to spend, each turn. Players issue orders every turn and then send them to the server, where the orders are resolved simultaneously and the results are then sent back to each player so that the next turn can proceed.

On the other hand, the "Overlord Mode" is a squad building and management game mode, where players can recruit new members for their squad, acquire new territory, browse active job offers to take new missions, manage missions in progress or train and upgrade their existing squad members via training or black market purchases.

Where Overlord Mode shines is in the Undercity Map. The Undercity contains the slums of The Sprawl, where the corporations have no motivation to pay to keep the peace. As a result, squads can control blocks of territory, provided they can hold them. For each tick of time a squad controls a block, the squad gains some sort of benefit (access to special weapons, unit types, income, etc.), but there are a finite number of blocks in the Undercity, so competition is fierce.

One word of warning: Holding a block requires deploying squad members, which depletes the number you can use in missions…

Like Units, the player has a certain number of action points that can be spent each realtime day. Every 24 hours this pool of action points is replenished. Performing certain actions in Overlord mode require action points, such as taking on a new mission or completing a turn in an active mission. The two game modes interact as players recruit units into the squad, increasing the number of missions a player can take each day: Success or failure of each mission will earn the units within XP and level and give the squad more money to use to purchase equipment, recruit new players. Further, the success or failure of missions will determine overall squad advancement (player level) which unlocks new security clearances (Access to new areas, capabilities, units and mission types) and new territories to control or exploit in the Overlord Mode.

Fans of Syndicate, Shadowrun, and Starfcraft will enjoy this retro 3rd person turned base tactical game imagineered by the talents of Warcraft 2, Starcraft 2, Mech-Warrior 2, Mafia Wars, Call of Duty 3, Read Dead Redemption, etc., etc., this will be good...
