05/22/2013– Teach a girl to read! Sondra Faye’s latest picture book 10...

USA Multi-Media Artist and Author Sondra Faye has just released the first in her collection of Reading Is Fun Picture Books, with the digital publication of “10 Lipsticks”. This book is illustrated by Children’s Book Illustrator Indah, who lives in Indonesia.

Sondra Faye, who has oil painted for years says, “The collaboration was based on my looking at Indah’s artwork; and saying to myself, this will be a lot of fun to have her use the Chibi – Anime style to reach both children and illiterate adults. I will be coming out with the other books I have illustrated; but, I really fell in love with Indah’s work especially for 10 Lipsticks…” Ms. Faye had begun tutoring illiterate adults the previous year. She found there weren’t many books that the women she was teaching to read that didn’t appear completely written for children. She has written a lot of her own books for her students, and then decided; maybe there will be a larger audience for her picture books.
Sondra Faye was appalled at the world wide literacy statistics, and hopes her series Reading Is Fun Picture Books will play a part in making the world a better place to read a book in.

According to UNICEF, "Nearly a billion people will enter the Twenty-First century unable to read a book or sign their names and two thirds of them are women."
